I Just Remembered Why I Hate American Idol...
She was born two months premature and weighed only two pounds. Surely it's a miracle that she's even alive but, when it comes to the confidence she exudes on stage, you would never know any of this because of her bubbly personality. Something about her makes you want to root for her and it's really unfortunate that America never embraced her as their "idol".
That being said, I think the biggest problem I have with American Idol is with "America" itself. A few years ago, America voted off another personal favorite of mine in Syesha Mercado and I still haven't really gotten over that if I'm being honest. My thing is, how could "America" be so naive? For a country that loves stories of triumph, or an underdog if you will, how could you not want someone like Haeley to win?!
Not only has she surpassed the expectations that were labeled on her when she was born, but what she represents is individuality. She's a pop/country singer for heaven's sake?!?! How many black women do you know that are into that kind of music? Not many that I know of, that's for sure.
Be that as it may, I don't think we've seen the last of Haeley Vaughn. Her departure from American Idol was just the prelude of many more things to come and I'm really curious to see how she responds to the constructive criticism she received on the show. So what if she was a little pitchy? There have been worse singers on the show and how they managed to survive ahead of her is beyond me. All it does is make you wonder who's really pulling the strings? America or the American Idol producers? Just a little random food for thought...

Jordin Sparks @ the Vikings/Jets Game
As a fan of the New England Patriots, it sickens me to see one of my potential spouses (hey, a guy can dream can't he?) wear the colors of the enemy.Words can't even begin to describe how much of a slap in the face this is, but it's not like I can be mad. Her and I aren't on speaking terms right now and haven't been for quite some time but, still, it's nice to see her make a public appearance. Albeit at a Jets game, no less.
All jokes aside, Jordin Sparks has been a favorite of mine ever since she won American Idol. Now, I don't remember much from that season but one thing I do remember is how captivated I was in watching Jordin perform.
It was like that every single week, for me, and, justifiably, it remains one of the few seasons that I feel America actually got it right as far as determining a winner (SN: How did Jennifer Hudson not win her season? I'm still scratching my head on that one).Be that as it may, I'm really looking forward to seeing how far Jordin can go with her career. She already has two successful albums under her belt and, not to mention, one amazing voice.
No other idol winner comes close in that regard so here's to continued success and a better taste in teams perhaps. "Gang Green" really isn't her color and, while I'm at it, neither is Steph Jones. Dude is the definition of a lame and I would be more than happy with putting a ring on it! Hopefully before he ever does...

This Ain't Sesame Street XXX
First things first, I am not a fan of Katy Perry. I think she has no talent whatsoever but, then again, it's no secret, also, that part of my disdain for her has to do with Maxim placing her #1 in their Hot 100.
There are so many other women that deserve that over her but, to Maxim's credit, I can't be mad when a pair of Double D's create this much controversy.
For instance: CSI, NCIS, & Criminal Minds. All of these shows are graphic in detail but, yet, I'm supposed to believe that Katy Perry's boobs pose that much of a problem? As nice as they are, I don't think so. Whatever disconnect there seems to be here is something that needs to be addressed; but, thankfully for SNL, they know exactly how to lighten the mood.
I just find it funny that none of the Dad's took offense to this. Just goes to show how simple men really are, I suppose.

Keri Hilson Wins Best New Artist @ BET Awads '09
BET actually got a few things right this year and I was more than pleased to see Keri Hilson take home the award for Best New Artist.None of the other nominees in the category deserved it outright, in my opinion, and I see this as validation for all the hard work Keri has put in over the years.
Her debut album, In A Perfect World, was easily one of the best debuts in recent memory and it's rare to find an artist, let alone one that gained notoriety as more of a songwriter, that is able to have this much success their first time out.
If you don't believe me, just ask Ryan Leslie. He, too, is an underrated talent that is only now starting to make a name for himself; but, if given some time, his success can match that of Keri Hilson's also. Besides, his talent is too good for him not too.
But that's another blog in itself. Keri gave a very inspired performance as well on Sunday and I thought she managed to pay tribute to Michael Jackson better than some of the more well-established artists (i.e. Beyonce). Other than that, I was pleased overall with everything Keri had to offer and, who knows, maybe this award/award show will be something that ultimately pushes her career to that next level.

Dane Cook's "Isolated" Incident
May have been an absolute waste of time, but that doesn't mean I'm succumbing to the naysayers that think Dane Cook's comedy isn't funny. If anything, I would say he's misunderstood; but that all depends on who you ask.I, for one, think the guy is superbly talented and have enjoyed his previous stand-ups (i.e. Harmful If Swallowed, Vicious Circle, Retaliation, etc.); but there was just something about Isolated Incident that was missing. I'm not sure if it was a certain pizazz or what. I just felt like his performance was a microcosm of all the negative criticism he receives and the fact that I didn't laugh much didn't help either.
Then again, for all I know, maybe his appeal is starting to wear off. It's no secret that his immense popularity has opened doors for him in Hollywood and, for whatever reason, his focus on comedy hasn't been quite the same since. Is that to say his lack of renewed creativity is to blame? By all means no, but hopefully this, too, (like the title of his latest stand up) is only an isolated incident. At least one could only hope anyway.

Dangerously In Love
What is it with network TV reality stars and their nude pasts? It seems like every show has at least one or two cast members who have either posed nude or have been exposed and VH1's For The Love of Ray J is no exception. As most of you know, Danger is currently on this season of For The Love Of Ray J and has been "interesting" to say the least. Not only has she come off as crazy but the mere fact that gossip mills are running rampant that she may be pregnant by Ray J is all the makings for an eventual spin-off sometime down the road. Which, I'm sure, VH1 actively pursued in the event that she doesn't win the show.
Yet and still, I'm a little bothered by what I came across and, as chauvinistic as it sounds, I'm somewhat disappointed to say the least. These pics did absolutely nothing for me and maybe it's because I just don't find Danger to be the least bit attractive. I just figured everything was one click of the mouse away so feel free to take a look for yourself and I'll allow you to be the judge.

Daddy's Little Girls
It's strange. I never understood why people loved Run's House but, as of late, it seems like it's all I ever watch. Call it a change of heart, if you will, but it's just something about this show that makes you not want to look away. Every frame grabs you and pulls you in and as you eagerly wait as to what will happen next, the anticipation just kills you.November 1, 2008

The Death of Danity Kane [Part 1]
Last night was the season finale of Making The Band 4 and, if you're like me, then you're definitely not pleased with the way MTV is dragging this thing out. I was more than ready to see the dismantling of Danity Kane (Sorry, Darien), more specifically the departure of Aubrey; yet, MTV pulled a fast one and is airing the season finale, finale next week!October 7, 2008

Hoopz Loves Money
Well, after it was all said and done, Hoopz proved otherwise that she loved money the most. Although it was a close race between her and White Boy, Hoopz prevailed and, finally, put an end to this awful, awful show.
Let's be clear for a second. I Love Money, by no means, is worthy of air time and I, for one, am glad to see it come to an end. Still, something tells me a second season will be greenlit into production and just the thought of that is making me sick to my stomach. All this celeb-reality crap is annoying and getting played out; so instead of focusing on all that bubblegum bullshit, VH1 should try to be original for once and stop jockin' MTV.
Anyway, enough of me ranting. Hoopz did her thing and, for that, I can't be mad. She looked good doing it, too; but that, that's a completly different story and I'll save that for another blog in the near future LOL. Oh well, be sure to check out the finale if you didn't catch it. It'll be on ALL week. You can damn near count on that.
