NBA Finals: Lakers Vs. Celtics
50 Cent's House Burns Down
Lakers Defeat Spurs in 5
Look, I'm man enough to admit when I was wrong and as much as it pains me to say it, the Lakers were just a better team in this series. However, what I will not say is that the Lakers deserved anything and, if anything, this easily could've been 4-1 in favor of the Spurs. Still, there's no use in crying over spilled milk so, we'll see Laker fans when the NBA Finals roll around. Detroit or Boston will be a tough match-up either way and something tells me this glorious high that the Lakers and their fans are on now, will come crashing down in the next few weeks. That being said, what a day it'll be to laugh when a Laker championship this year was so close, yet so far away. Yeah, what a day that'll be.

A Family Guy Spin Off? The Cleveland Show Set To Debut Next Fall
I absolutely love Family Guy but I'm a little hesitant when it comes to the idea of a spin off. Don't get me wrong, the Cleveland character is great and all but to give Cleveland his own show is kind of surprising. To be fair though, I'll hold any reservations I may have until the show debuts next fall but here's a quick synopsis of what the show will entail. My only question is, does this spell the end of Cleveland's involvement on Family Guy? Only time will tell.
"Many years ago, Cleveland Brown (voiced by Mike Henry) was a high school student madly in love with a beautiful girl named Donna. Much to his dismay, his love went unrequited, and Donna wound up marrying another man. Cleveland once told Donna he would always love her, and if this man ever done her wrong, he'd be there when she called.
Well, this man done her wrong.
Donna's husband skipped town with another woman, leaving Donna with a daughter and a baby. Now she's come to Cleveland and offered him another chance at love. Unattached after the Loretta-Quagmire debacle and true to his word, Cleveland joyously accepts and he and Cleveland Jr. move to Stoolbend, VA, to join their new family.
Once in Stoolbend, Cleveland has a few surprises in store for him, including a flirtatious new stepdaughter, a 5-year-old stepson who loves the ladies, as well as a collection of neighbors that includes a loudmouth redneck couple, a British family seemingly stuck in the Victorian era and a family of bears living at the end of the block.
Family Guy was only the beginning. Get ready for The Cleveland Show (working title)!
The series is written and executive-produced by Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad), Rich Appel (The Simpsons, King of the Hill) and Mike Henry (Family Guy). "--Synopsis taken from Fox.com

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Understandably, a lot of people will be reserved when it comes to Indy 4 because too many sequels can destroy a franchise. Likewise, I think this notion has been well documented but going in, I had no expectations whatsoever for this film and I think that’s what you have to go in with in order to really enjoy it. All it is is a summer popcorn movie with tons of action/adventure so, for what it’s worth, put all the nitpicks, criticisms, and reservations aside that you may have and get lost in something that’s really amazing. The special effects are some of the best eye candy you’ll ever see and is what really sells this movie to the audience. Yeah, some of the effects/plot details are a little over the top but not to the extent that it feels like it outweighs the texture of the movie. Therefore, it’s more like an experience while watching it in the theater and you know what? Last I checked, that’s what going to the movies was supposed to be about.
So, I’ve said all this to say what? I think it’s pretty obvious that I’m giving this movie a thumbs up but me telling you about it doesn’t do it justice. It’s just something you have to see for yourself and as far as the criticisms concerning all the supernatural content, it’s really undeserved in my opinion. That being said, Indy 4 is a fun ride from start to finish and is definitely worth the price of admission.
†hê £åÐêÐ Ìñk [The Faded Ink] Presents...The 10 Most Anticipated Albums of the Summer
#10. Usher: Here I Stand [Release Date: May 27th]--This is going to be a pretty big record for Usher so I'm interested to see how it performs on the charts. Either way, it's a Usher record so quality music is a guarantee.
#9. Ne-Yo: Year of the Gentleman [Release Date: August 5th]--This Ne-Yo record seems like it will be interesting but I'm just not feeling his whole approach to it. I hate his "Closer" song that he has out now and maybe that's why the label pushed the album back. Still, Ne-Yo makes good music so I'm sure he'll fix things in time. At least, I hope so.
#8. Young Jeezy: The Recession [Release Date: July 29th]--Not many rappers can come out of the sophomore jinx unscathed but Jeezy managed to do so quite nicely. The Inspiration was solid and remained true to it's predecessor but this new album should be fire. The lead single "I Put On" featuring Kanye is on point so I can't even begin to describe how eager I am to hear this new album.
#7. Ludacris: Theater of the Mind [Release Date: TBD]--A Grammy for Rap album of the year is quite an accomplishment, but some feel it was undeserved. Regardless, Ludacris is clearly focused to prove the doubters wrong and Theater of the Mind will serve as the perfect venue for him to do so. He's been consistent since day one and his body of work speaks for itself. However, turn about is fair play also, and his being consistent is what enables him from being considered an elite m.c.; but, hopefully, Theater of the Mind will be able to propel him to such heights.
#6. Robin Thicke: Something Else [Release Date: July 1st]--The Evolution of Robin Thicke was a diamond in the rough for many and a lot of expectations are being placed on this upcoming album from Thicke. The success of Evolution will play a major role in this one, I'm sure, but Thicke just has something about him that translates in his music. I don't know if it's his passion, voice, or w/e but Something Else will be "something else" and contemporary radio will fall in love all over again.
#5. Common: Invincible Summer [Release Date: TBD]--I think my feelings on this album have been well documented, along with countless others, but Common's body of work is the reason why I ranked this album so high. While all signs point to this being a sequl to Electric Circus, Common's earned his stripes to branch out and try something different. Only thing is, will his fans branch out along with him?
#4. Nas: Nigger [Release Date: July 1st]--In case you haven't heard, Nas has decided to scrap his controversial title for this album and has opted to go the self-titled route for now. My personal opinion, I feel it's a punk move but I'm sure there's a lot of politics involved behind the move. Still, this will be an important album for Nas so hopefully his food for thought is worthy of our appetite. Then again, it always is.
#3. T.I.: Paper Trail [Release Date: August 12th]--Facing all kinds of time, T.I. isn't necessarilly defining his career with this album but he has a lot to prove with it in my opinion. T.I. vs. T.I.P. felt like it was the "safe" way to go and while it was ok, it just wasn't worth all the hype. Maybe it's just me but I can't even begin to express how important this album will be for T.I. to deliver. Not to say it'll be a disappointment, but "No Matter What" just isn't going to cut it.
#2. The Game: L.A.X. [Release Date: July 8th]--Supposedly, this will be The Game's final album but, like I wrote yesterday, a rapper retiring doesn't mean anything anymore. Anyway, The Game seems to be in the right place, at the right time because I think this album will serve as the proof people will need to set Game apart as a great M.C. I think the guy is superbly talented and one of the best at this craft, but the respect factor has never been there and is what he needs to validate his career. If "Big Dreams" and "Pain" featuring Keyshia Cole is indication, then by all means, you might as well consider this game over.
#1. Lil' Wayne: Tha Carter III [Release Date: June 10th]--Anticipation can be a gift and a curse but for Lil' Wayne it may just be his downfall. A lot of people have been waiting on this album and for it to come out and be nothing short of spectacular, would be the worst possible thing Lil' Wayne could ask for. Only time will tell though but with so much time that went into this "masterpiece", you just gotta believe that it's going to be good, right? Have you not heard "A Milli"? I rest my case...

After Finding Forever, Common Hopes For An Invincible Summer
Don't get me wrong, I think it's great when an artist ventures out to explore creativity but if it ain't broke, then don't fix it. Besides, Kanye was the one who helped Common "find his way home", so to speak, so I'm questioning this move on Common's behalf. Understandably, Kanye is quite busy with his Glow in the Dark tour so from that standpoint, I can understand but Common...remember what happened with Electric Circus? Making the same mistake twice is not a good look so chew on that for awhile before the summer gets here.

N.E.R.D.: Seeing Sounds Album Cover/Tracklisting
Even though all of this is subject to change, I just happen to have a thing for cover art. It's one those small details that goes unappreciated when it comes to CD's but then again, who really buys a CD anymore? Anyway, this is the cover art for the upcoming N.E.R.D. album, Seeing Sounds, and I really like it if I must say so myself. It's different and it fits exactly what N.E.R.D. represents.
Hopefully, the album is as good as the cover art though. I've never listened to a N.E.R.D. album before but I'm kind of anxious for this one. So, to all you fellow N.E.R.D. fans, Seeing Sounds is set to drop June 10th, 2008.

The Roots: Rising Down
Upon first listening to Rising Down, one can safely say that The Roots are hungrier than ever. Most notably Black Thought, as he goes all the way in on the drum heavy "75 Bars (Black’s Reconstruction)". His impeccable microphone presence is on display here and it kind of makes you wonder why his name isn’t mentioned among some of the elite MC’s. Clearly, he deserves it in my opinion but whether underrated or unnoticed, the fact still remains that this guy is pretty good. Overall though, The Roots collectively shine and in doing so, the guest appearances seem to mesh rather well. The title track, “Rising Down”, featuring Mos Def and Styles P. is a standout cut but not to be outdone, the closing track “Rising Up” featuring Wale and Chrisette Michele is equally good as well. Both tracks address political discontent and in typical Roots fashion, the end result is an audio masterpiece.
Then again, I guess the same thing can be said for this CD as a whole. Tracks like the raucous “Get Busy” and the unapologetic “I Will Not Apologize” are what fans of The Roots will be drawn to, but it’s not too complex to the point that new fans will be turned off. Realistically, this album is more catered to the longtime fan anyway but if you love real hip-hop, then Rising Down is well worth the listen. Besides, regardless of the medium, the message remains the same. Hip-Hop is far from dead…and The Roots are living proof.

*Vïvå Lå Whï†ê Gïrl
Black America’s allure for the “white girl” has been deeply rooted for years, but it’s only now becoming more prominent. Racial tension remains prevalent and follwing the recent injustice served with the controversial verdict of the Sean Bell case, you would think that it shouldn’t take something like this to bring us together. For years injustice has rang out in this country of ours only to be subdued but for so many years spent rising down, our rising up is sure to be bittersweet.; However, until that day, I guess all of this is a moot point but still, I digress.
You see, it’s not so much the fact that our purported values lack merit because, for the most part, we’re pretty prideful people. Our history is enriched with tales of courage, endurance, and standing up for what we believe in but somewhere along the way, it seems like we’ve lost sight of all that. So much attention is placed on material possessions, as well as the ever elusive chase of the almighty dollar, that “hustlin” has become an unwritten creed/guideline. I think Biggie said it best, “Either you slang rock or have a wicked jumpshot” and unfortunately, young black males are succumbing to the pressures of innercity society. They feel like these are their only two options to make it out and be successful when really, that’s not the case. Who cares what society wants you to be? The alternative is a statistic and it’s alarming to know that there are more black males in prison then there are in college. It’s a sad, harsh reality but in real life there are no gray areas. Things are what they are and unless there’s a beacon for change, things aren’t going to get better on there own.Believe it or not, but the black male is an endangered species. As much as it hurts me to categorize us as such, the realization of such a claim has so many social aspects to it that I don‘t even know where to begin. From one standpoint, people stereotypically associate black, inner city youth with drugs and other assorted paraphernalia but also, the ideology of the black man’s kryptonite is something I feel the need to explore as well. Both are considered to be a hindrance to our society but, as far as who’s to blame, that’s another issue in and of itself. For instance, if I may, the forbidden fruit theory is the perfect foundation for this subtext so follow me if you will.As a black male, I feel like I have certain obligations and regularities to abide by but deep down lies an embedded piece of software that causes a malfunction from time to time. It’s not prevalent in all black men but I’d say a good majority have this particular character defect. Does it make us any less black? No, it only makes us normal to be honest but jungle fever and detox is not something that go hand in hand. In theory, it would be great if it did but conversely, an addiction is only proprietary by the abuser. That being said, I never could find the logic in people’s disdain for what most consider “selling out” but, really, there’s no white or wrong. Love, like complexity, in it’s purest form is raw, uncut emotion unheralded by the fact that an overdose is remotely possible; but in all fairness, I prefer to liken these feelings to a game of Russian roulette. Either way, a metaphorical suicide is taking place in our community and to just sit idly by and do nothing, is only contributing to this unbridled truth. Things can’t be seen as just black and white anymore and until we embrace that fact, I fear racial genocide will be the end result. It just goes to show that some things on the surface are bigger than what they appear to be. The only question is, which one will be the death of us?
